Posting number 4 for July 17, 2016

Finally we turned to the North for the Alaska Highway on the spectacular Stewart Cassiar highway and the highway to Stewart/Hyder. Glaciers and snowfields everywhere you looked for several hundreds miles.

There have been several villages of Canadian Indian Nations along our route who have preserved their heritage in cultural centers and with family totems showing the clan history. Truly works of art.

On Friday we were located at N55.951 degrees, W129.978 degrees and the sunset was 10:16 PM with sunrise at 5:14 AM. This location is at the British Columbia and Alaska border in the Portland Fjord of the Pacific Ocean. Stewart is BC and 4 kilometer away is Hyder, Alaska. To take advantage of the nearby fishing, we ate halibut for lunch at the local walkup Seafood Express Bus.

Later in the afternoon we gave ourselves a treat as Jim was having ice cream withdrawal. Very special western Canada made Black Licorice flavor (Carolyn) and Root Beer Float flavor w/ Black Licorice (Jim). Both yummy. Later we found out that they were now out of ice cream. The next delivery will not be until next Tuesday, too late for this weekend's crowd.

Some real wildlife from the protection of a constructed viewing platform. Yes that is a grizzly stalking and catching a salmon for his evening meal. Also saw a black bear and cub cross the road in front of us as we returned to our car. They were about 5 cars away from us.

But just as amazing was watching a family of four beavers trying to repair their dam. What action. They did not even notice that we were watching them.

We just keep moving on.
