“Grand Canyon of Texas”

Palo Duro Canyon, the second largest canyon in the US, is considered to be the best kept secret in Texas.  This canyon was formed by the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River. Our campsite in the canyon was surrounded by juniper and cottonwood trees and visited by very bold strutting turkeys

The Paseo del Rio Trail is one of the many hiking, biking and riding trails in this very popular weekend park as it is located near Amarillo.

For historical purposes a small group of longhorns is kept in the park.

Oklahoma Ranch

We travelled to southeastern Oklahoma to visit Bill, a boyhood friend of Jim’s, at his ranch.  On this 100 acre ranch Bill and his wife Adrian raise a small herd of cattle with some very young calves, true free range chickens, and riding horses.  About twenty years ago Bill retired from rodeo competition after he broke several bones while steer wrestling.

MaryDell Morrison
Fellow Hiker and Traveler

For many years MaryDell lived in Heath Village in Hackettstown.  Recently she moved to Humboldt, Tennessee to live with family including her brother Paul. She is very well cared for and doing well physically, even doing stairs to her bedroom on the second floor of the house. She has her own phone number.  If you would like this number, an email address for the family, and/or her mailing address send us an email request.

We arrive home in NJ on Sunday March 12 just in time for the return of winter and the snow storm.  Do not know when we will be hiking again. We are looking forward to spring.
